Marjorie Hester Carney Gunn - Marge as she was known to all, died at age 94 on November 30, 2016. She was born in Russellville, Alabama and moved to Meridian upon marrying her husband of 30 years Dr. James P. Carney, a long time Meridian veterinarian. Marge was active in numerous organizations and was a member of the Northwood Country Club. She was partners with her husband in raising and showing Quarter Horses and in their cattle operations. She founded and operated the Little People resell boutique for several years and at one time owned The Princess Shop in downtown Meridian.
She is preceded in death by her late husbands Dr. James P. Carney and J. B. Gunn, and her son Robert Hawkins Carney. She is survived by her sons, James P. Carney, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Jackson, Kenneth Elton Carney of Meridian, and Thomas Michael Carney and his wife Tanya of Bernice, La. and her grandchildren Carson Carney Devore and her husband Brandon, James P. Carney III and his wife Elizabeth, Wyatt Carney and his wife Jodie, Laurin Carney Scroggins and her husband Will and six great grandchildren. A special service will be held at Webb Funeral Home in Meridian, Ms. a 3:00 P.M. on Friday, December 2.
