Marjorie Janet Temple

January 11, 1946 — April 7, 2024

Scooba

Marjorie Janet Temple, 78, of Scooba, Mississippi, passed away the evening of April 7, 2024, at Ochsner Rush Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi.

Janet was born to Herbert George and Katherine Cornelia (Hallford) Temple at the old Kemper County Hospital in De Kalb on January 11, 1946.  She was the eldest girl of the eight children Herbert and Katherine had together, five boys and three girls.  Janet loved and took care of her siblings and as they recall, “kept them in line”.

Janet’s biggest accomplishment in her life, was going back to school at the age of 40.  She graduated from Hinds County Community College with not only her CNA and LPN licensures, but she also went on to obtain her RN license.  She was employed with Mississippi State Hospital for 27 years as a psychiatric nurse.  She loved her patients, and they loved her.  Janet loved traveling with the Area 8 Special Olympic Athletes as their nurse to local, state, and regional competitions.  She was known by the athletes as "my nurse".  She was a natural caregiver and had a true servant’s heart.

Janet loved to cook, and her kitchen was always open.  She loved her Scooba neighbors and delighted in being active in her community, always helping others and providing her famous home cooked dishes for any event, from church socials to community and family gatherings.  Janet, along with her sister, Debbie, often prepared and delivered home cooked meals weekly for the students of the East Mississippi Community College Noon Day Christian Program.  She was always a part of VBS at the Scooba Baptist Church, preparing refreshments for the children.  Janet’s made-from-scratch Banana Pudding was said to be “the best in the world”.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John and Howard Temple; and sister, Gloria Hailey.

Janet is survived by her brothers, Frank Temple, Herbert P. “Buddy” Temple and his wife Judy, and Danny Temple and his wife Lynda; her sister, Debbie Waller and her husband Larry; along with numerous nieces & nephews and great nieces & great nephews.

Services for Janet will be Friday, April 12, 2024, beginning at 11:00 am, at Scooba Baptist Church with Bro. Donald Martin and Bro.
