Martin Reed, 86, of Meridian, passed away the early morning hours of Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Ochsner Rush Medical Center.
Martin was born to Jack and Alnita (Lang) Reed at their home on July 4, 1938, in Kemper County. Martin will be remembered for a being a loving husband, father, and grandfather, but mostly he will be remembered for his love of roofing. Martin, affectionately known to family as “Pop” and as “Trouble” to everyone else, retired from roofing just two years ago at the young age of 84. His last reroofing job being his own roof. He single-handedly replaced his entire roof, refusing to allow his sons to help. Martin was not a stranger to hard work. Being raised on a cotton farm, the ethic of working hard was instilled in Martin and his brothers at a very young age. A trait he likewise instilled in his own children. Pop will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Martin is survived by his wife of 25 years, Charlotte Lynn (Nunley) Reed; his sons, Jimmy Martin Reed (Celina), Marty Patrick Reed, and Martin Douglas Reed; his daughters, Samantha Ann Kellogg and Kathy Lynn Cook (Jimmy); his brothers, Fletcher Reed, Raymond Reed (Jan), and Russell Reed (Dean); along with a legacy of nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Alnita Reed; his stepmother, Thelma Hatcher Reed; his brother, D.J. Reed; and his daughter, Betty Alnita Reed Booth.
A Memorial Service honoring the life of Martin, will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024, beginning at 10:30 am at First Assembly of Meridian, with Pastors Bob Null and Jimmy Reed officiating the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made in Martin’s honor to the Care Lodge of Meridian, to the Wesley House of Meridian, to Love’s Kitchen of Meridian, or to a favorite charity of choice.
The staff of Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-North is grateful for the opportunity to honor Martin’s life and memory and to serve his loving family during this time.
