Mary Katharine McDonald Evans, 94, of New Albany, Mississippi passed away peacefully on September 20, 2023, at Dogwood Plantation of New Albany.
She was born to Calvin Lamar McDonald, Sr. and Molly Easterling McDonald on May 14, 1929, in Meridian, Mississippi.
Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church of New Albany. She loved playing the piano and played up to the time she went to be with the Lord. She also loved her Atlanta Braves, especially #5 Freddie Freeman, and the Ole Miss Rebels. Mary also enjoyed playing the card games, Solitaire and Shanghai.
Mary was married to her loving husband, Rev. William Franklin “Pete” Evans, Jr. for 49 years. Together, Pete and Mary had two children, Don and Kathy.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Kathy Evans Gulledge; son, Don Evans; six grandchildren, Paige, Allyson (Mitch), Brooke (Chris), Mikel (Scott), Will (Megan) and Kate (Peyton); along with a legacy of nine great-grandchildren, Cameron, Easton, Brodie, Josie, Mills, Walker, Landry, Aiden, and Ainsley.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rev. William Franklin “Pete” Evans, Jr, sisters, Ouida Heitman and Evelyn McCartney, and her brother Calvin Lamar McDonald, Jr.
A visitation will be held Thursday, September 21, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in New Albany, MS from 4-6pm.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 22, 2023, at Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-Downtown beginning at 1pm. The Funeral Service will begin at 2pm, immediately following the visitation, with Dr. Raymon Leake and Andrew Chesteen officiating. Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Magnolia Cemetery at a later date.
Pallbearers for the service will be Will Evans, Cameron Washburn, Easton Thames, Brodie Romero, Mills Sheridan, Walker Brewster, Landry Gulledge, and Aiden Evans. Honorary Pallbearers will be Don Evans and Dr. Harry Dayton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial are suggested to be sent to The Mississippi Baptist Children’s Village at www.baptistchildrensvillage.com, in Mary’s honor.
