Mary Rebecca Brown

September 2, 1937 — June 10, 2024

Meridian

Mary Alexander “Becky” Brown, 86, of Meridian, passed away the evening of June 10, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born to James Newton “Jim” and Goldia (Dennis) Alexander on September 2, 1937, in Cannon County, Tennessee.  After graduating Woodbury Central High School in 1956, she worked for the State of Tennessee while living at the Church of Christ Girl’s Home in Nashville.  Becky liked to talk and reminisce about going to The Grand Ole Opry which was a block away from the home.  She met her husband Ted in Nashville while he was stationed at Sewart Air Force Base in Smyrna, TN.  This began a marriage that lasted 60 years until Ted’s death in 2018.  They had 2 daughters and shared numerous adventures camping, boating, and traveling all around the United States and the Azores.

She will be remembered by all that knew her as being loving, hospitable, and witty.  Her smile and wit were her trademarks and could always make a room brighter.  She was also known for the delicious meals and desserts she prepared.  No one went away hungry.  She loved her Tennessee roots.  Becky loved the Lord and was a devoted member of the Church of Christ.  She loved and cherished her family.  Her grandsons couldn’t wait to see their “Nana”.  They loved her dearly and couldn’t wait to see what delicious treats or surprises she had for them.  This love was shared with and among all the members of the Brown and Alexander families and the many friends they made along the way.

Becky is survived by her daughter, Sherri Clopton and her husband, Bruce; brothers, Buster Alexander and wife Pam, Jimmy Alexander and wife Charlotte; four grandchildren, Brett Clopton and wife Paige, Cole Clopton and wife Rachel, Ethan Clopton, and Brolin Brown; one great grandson, Robbie Clopton; along with many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Talmadge Norris “Ted” Brown; daughter, Terri Brown; many beloved sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; along with several cherished nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to the home caregivers that made sure Becky was comfortable and well taken care of.  Thanks also to the staff at The Preserve for the love and care she received while a resident there.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 10-11:00 am at Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-North, located at 7774-A Highway 39 N, Meridian, MS.  Burial will follow at 1:00 pm at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery.  All friends and family are invited to attend to share support and love for Becky and her family.

Pallbearers for Becky's service will be Brett Clopton, Cole Clopton, Ethan Clopton, Jimmy Alexander, Buster Alexander, and Josh Alexander.
