Mary Lee Young, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Hattiesburg Health and Rehab, surrounded by her loved ones.
Mary was born to James Noah and Dolly (Pardon) Preston on August 17, 1936, in Dermott, Arkansas. Mary worked hard all her life, not only caring for her family, but also as a seamstress at several sewing factories, and a carrier for the Meridian Star for eight years.
Family was the cornerstone of Mary’s life. She cared deeply for others and devoted herself to nurturing those around her. Known for her warmth and kindness, Mary never met a stranger. Mary found joy in simple comforts-a cozy blanket or warm jacket-and always carried a purse with plenty of room for her favorite Juicy Fruit gum. Mary’s compassion and love left an indelible mark on all who knew and loved her. May her memory bring comfort to those she held so dear.
Mary is survived by her four children, James Grady Young, Ernest David Young (Christy), Ranson Earl Young (Ruth), and Linda Miller. Mary’s legacy also includes her cherished grandchildren, Crystal Miller, Jonathan Miller, Amanda Young Mazingo, Kelly Suttles, Kendall Young, Kayla Young, and Leigh Young; as well as her great grandchildren, Caleb Thornton and Sydney Thornton, whom she lovingly cared for over the last 20 years of her life; along with her other great grandchildren, Tandy Mazingo and James Mazingo. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Dolly Preston; her beloved husband of 52 years, Ernest Grady Young; her grandson, Darrell Young; and her sister, Ruby Etzkorn, who we are sure were joyfully waiting to reunite with her.
Graveside Services for Mary will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, beginning at 2pm, at the Cedar Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Scooba, with Bro. Dusty Webb officiating the service.
Serving as Pallbearers for Mary’s service will be Terry Street, Caleb Thornton, Jonathan Miller, Zach Hunt, James Mazingo, and Jeremy Street.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation and gratitude to the nurses and staff of Hattiesburg Health and Rehab and to the nurses of Vital Care Hospice for taking such loving care of Mary during her time with them.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made in Mary’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association or to your charity of choice.
The staff of Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes is grateful for the opportunity to honor Mary’s life and memory and to serve her loving family during this time.
