Maurine Dallas Sims
A celebration of Maurine Dallas Sims's life will be held Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 9:30am at Webb's Chapel. The family will receive friends Friday, March 16, 2018 from 5 until 7pm at James F. Webb Funeral Home, Meridian, MS.
Centenarian, Maurine Dallas Sims, born September 10, 1917 in a one room log cabin on a Neshoba County Mississippi farm, died March 7, 2018 in Alpharetta, Ga, where she moved to be near her children.
Maurine, a graduate of House High School, East Central Community College earned a degree in math and science from USM in 1938. Married in 1944 in Hattiesburg, MS. Ernest and Maurine moved to Meridian and began raising their family of 3 children. She received her Master of Education degree from MSU in 1968 and taught various math and science courses at numerous schools including Meridian High School, Meridian Community College and ECCC. Maurine worked as her husband's business partner at Southern Building and Supply Co, and managing their rental property business. Upon retiring from teaching they opened their real estate business, Sims Realty, both became brokers.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Fred and Maudie Dallas; her husband, Ernest I. Sims; her sisters: Imogene Ritenburg and Winifred Davis and brother, Del Dallas.
Maurine is survived by her brothers Paul and Ed Dallas; sisters: Pauline Chadwell and Jo Hicks; son, Jerry Sims of Atlanta and St. Simons, GA; two daughters: Ouida Green Fitts of Tuscaloosa, AL and Paula Waters of Cumming, GA; nephew, James Savell of Meridian, MS; eight grandchildren: Laura Green Rothermel, Heather Green Hutson, Sarah Green Emrich, Ted Sims, Pamela Sims Zogi, Josh Waters, Eron Waters Cooper and Jena Waters and her 17 great grandchildren.
