May E. Brown, 92, died Friday, March 27, 2020, at her home. She was born in Liverpool, England to Thomas and Florence Haase. She was a war-bride, who immigrated to this country after marrying an army soldier from Meridian, MS who was stationed near Liverpool during World War II. She had a love and talent for music which she shared with others, having taught many students to play the piano and the accordion. After retiring from the Lauderdale County School System, she continued to teach at Calvary Christian School.
Most important to her, she loved Jesus, and willingly served Him as a singer, musician, and Bible teacher throughout her life.
She was an avid Bible student, and could always be trusted for wise, Godly counsel, and prayer. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but we rejoice in the life that she now lives in the presence of the Lord Jesus.
She is survived by her husband, Bowman L. Brown; children John Espey (Melody), Jean Herrington, Teddy Espey (Dorothy), Tommy Espey (Jo), Albert Espey (Barbara), Bill Brown (Connie), Elaine Nelson, Becky Raines (Donnie), Bowman Brown Jr. (Barb), Jill Scott, and Julie Frazier (Kelvin), as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. Also, brothers Samuel Hayes, Robert Hayes, and sister Esther Berry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Grover Espey, brother Tommy Hayes, sister Jean Hayes, infant brother Johnna Hayes, son-in-law Oscar Herrington, John Nelson; great-grandchildren Zachery Espey and Autumn Espey.
A private family graveside memorial was held at Pine Grove Church Cemetery in Martin, March 30 at 11:00. Stephens Funeral Home has been entrusted with her arrangements.
