Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred Omatine McDonald Jones will be held Sunday, April 22nd at 12 pm in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home of Meridian. Rev. Kenneth Owen and Rev. Jimmy Harrison will be officiating the services. Burial will follow in Springhill UMC Church cemetery.
Mrs. Jones, 98, of Meridian, passed away Wednesday at Aldersgate Community Living Center. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse who retired from Anderson Regional Medical Center, Meridian Convalescent Home and Broadmoor Health Care Center. She also was employed by Burnley Shirt Factory. Never a person to stop working, she continued to stay busy. She crocheted over 150 hats for local cancer patients as well as hats that we sent for children at Blair Batson Children's Hospital and St. Jude's Hospital for Children. She was the treasurer for the Aldersgate Sunday School and was crowned last year as the Aldersgate Fishing Champion when she caught over 49 fish. Mrs. Jones enjoyed working with her hands outdoors whether it was caring for her flowers and plants or planting vegetables in her garden. If anyone at Aldersgate had a "sick" plant, they would bring it to her for care. Mrs. Jones loved her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was blessed to be able to see one great great-grandchild. Her loving and kind spirit was evidence of her living her faith.
Mrs. Jones was a member of the Eastern Star and Springhill UMC on Zero Road.
She is survived by her children James Gaylon Jones (Charlotte), Buddy Jones (Julie) and Rev. Becky Smith (Sonny); twelve grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her parents Thomas "Penn" and Martha Ella McDonald; husband J.L. Jones; son Donald Ray Jones and eight brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons John G Jones, Kevin Jones, Alfie Jones, Brian Smith, Jamey Taylor and Chad Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Ethan McKee, Fletcher McKee, Turbo McKee, Luke Cumberland, Sam Peeler and Ben Peeler.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the "living angels" of Quality Hospice for the loving and excellent care provided to Mrs. Jones.
She always had a fondness for the Gideon's. Friends may send memorials in her name to the local Gideon's camps.
Visitation will be Saturday from 3pm to 5pm and again on Sunday from 11 am until service time at the funeral home.
