Mildred Maurine Lewis

March 30, 1933 — February 5, 2025

Meridian

Mildred Maurine Lewis, 91, of Meridian, passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of Wednesday, February 5, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.

Mildred was born to Claude Roland and Jodie Ethel (Wedgeworth) Grice on March 30, 1933, in Union, MS. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. Mildred dedicated her life to caring for and helping others. She was an OR nurse for 34 years at Rush Foundation Hospital before her retirement and went on to volunteer there until last year. She also volunteered with the VFW and at her church, Faith Baptist Church, where she has been a faithful member for many years.

Mildred loved gardening and cooking for her family. Some of her most famous dishes were her chicken and dumplings, her pot roast, and her family’s favorite cornbread dressing. She enjoyed reading and studying her devotionals for Sunday school. Mildred was always present for her family’s functions, whether it was birthdays or graduations. Her family was the most important part of her life, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Jodie Grice; and her husband of 43 years, Jacob Waddell “J.W.” Lewis.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Terry Goforth (Karen), Michael Goforth, Shelia Irby (Mark), Penny Pender, Michele Morris (William), and Catina Ingargiola (Frank); her grandchildren, Jason Goforth, John Goforth, Jennifer Goforth, Maddie Golson, Kelly Steen, Abigail Sanders, Jacob Allen, Kaitlynn Allen, Bethany Morris, Bailey Morris, and Sophia Ingargiola; along with eight great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Visitation for Mildred will be held on Friday, February 7th, from 12-2pm at Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-North. Funeral Services will begin at 2pm in the chapel, with Dr. Corey Fontan and Pastor Daniel Fortenberry officiating the services. Mildred will be laid to rest next to her husband, J.W., in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made in Mildred’s honor to the Faith Baptist Church Building Fund.

The staff of Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-North is grateful for the opportunity to honor Mildred’s life and memory and to serve her loving family during this time.
