Minnie Hartley

Minnie Waller Rice Hartley, age 95, died July 16, 2010 surrounded by loved ones at Christian Care Center, Mesquite, Texas. She had been in failing health for the past several years. The family will receive friends and relatives at James S. Webb Funeral Home in Meridian on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 from 5:007:00 pm with Graveside services at Magnolia Cemetery on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 10:00 am. James F.Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born August 1, 1914 in Meridian, Mississippi to Estelle and John Waller. She had 2 sisters and 3 brothers, all of whom preceded her in death.
Minnie met the first great love of her life, Morgan E. Red Rice when they were teenagers. They married in 1932 and had four children together: Morgan, James, Virginia Ginger and Gerald. Morgan and Minnie were married for 37 years and were among the founding members of their church, Westwood Baptist. Morgan preceded Minnie in death in 1969.
After moving to Jacksonville, Florida to be close to her son James, Minnie met the other great love of her life, Joseph A. Hartley. They were married for 26 years. Minnie enjoyed gardening and had an amazing ability to persuade anything green to grow beautifully. Minnie and Joe moved to the Dallas, Texas area in 1998 to be close to her daughter and Joes family. Joe preceded Minnie in death in 2000.
Minnie was blessed to have had two great loves in her life. Her 4 children married and blessed her with 9 grandchildren and 16 greatgrandchildren. In addition, her 4 stepchildren also blessed her with 16 grandchildren, 36 greatgrandchildren, and 18 greatgreatgrandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She spent her entire life surrounded by so much love and her family meant everything to her.
She is survived by Morgan Rice of Sacramento, California, James and Betty Rice of Jacksonville, Florida, Nelson and Ginger Rice Fletcher of Royse City, Texas, Gerald and Gloria Rice of Sumrall, Mississippi, Bette and Ralph Wyckoff of La Mirada, California, JoAnn and Jerry Eminger of Brea, California, John H. and Ellie Hartley, of Ontario, California and John W. and Ely Hartley of Brea, California.
