Services for Oliver Limerick will be held Friday, October 19, 2018, at Blackwater Baptist Church in Daleville at 2pm.
Rev. Walt Tessier and Rev. Jonathan Greer are officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Limerick, 83, of the Wahalak community, passed away Wednesday at Bedford Care of Marion.
Mr. Limerick served his country in the U.S. Air Force where he was a jet engine specialist. After his veteran service, he returned to Kemper County where he established his farm which included dairy, cattle, timber and row farming. He was a member and deacon at Wahalak Baptist Church and served Kemper County as the elected country surveyor for over 45 years, many of which were with no opposition. Mr. Limerick, a devout Christian, also served as a speaker and member of the Kemper Co. Gideons camp. He served as president of the Kemper Co. Farm Bureau and served, representing the bureau in Washington, D.C. He loved to be outdoors whether he was fishing, hunting or just enjoying nature.
Mr. Limerick is survived by his wife of 51 years, Charlene Limerick; sons Mark Greer (Robin), Robbie Limerick (Sheila), Bobby Joe "Bubba" Limerick; grandchildren Kristi Smith (Chad), Tyler Greer (Kelsey), Jonathan Greer (Hannah), Jennifer Greer, Michael Greer, Logan Oliver Limerick and Eli Blackmon Limerick. He is also survived by his great grandchildren Josiah Greer, Emma Leigh Smith; sister, June Watson (Joe), and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Mittie Pearl Limerick; son, Gary Greer, and brothers, Roger McRae Limerick and Marvin Delano Limerick.
Pallbearers will be Mose Fleming, Marvin Floyd, Tommy Franklin, Stu Bosarge, Kenny Patel, Andrew Dabbs, Scotty Barnes and Jack Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Marion Breckinridge, Bobby Cummins, Paul Thomas, grandchildren, AA group of Kemper County and the Kemper County Camp of Gideons.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Gideons International or Alcoholic Anonymous.
