She attended and graduated from Enterprise High School in 1954. She also represented Enterprise High School during the state’s Miss Hospitality Contest. She loved to travel and loved Cajun cooking.
She is survived by her twin sisters, Mary Kate Gavin and Julia Frances Rice; her uncle, Wayne Peters; along with many loving nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own children.
She was preceded in death by her parents John Philip Barmer, Sr. and Sybil Louise (Peters) Barmer; her husband, Leo Carlin Smith, Jr.; her brother, J. P. Barmer, Jr.; along with her nephews, Gary Barmer and William James Huffmaster, III.
A loving remembrance from Patricia’s twin sisters: “Our sister was loved by all who knew her and she enjoyed life to its fullest. We will miss her as we have been blessed to live and have fun together, for almost 82 years. She loved a glass of champagne and to sing Delta Dawn. We called ourselves the three musketeers and even though she is now with God, she will forever remain in our hearts. We told her she was our second mama, as she strived to make us into beautiful Southern ladies. Bye our precious sister, thank you for everything.”
The sisters wish to extend a special thanks to all their loved ones for bringing happiness into her life. Special thanks to Aldersgate Caregivers and staff for making her home a wonderful place to live. For all the many friends she has made, she sends her love.
Memorial Services for Patricia will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024, at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, MS, with Bro. Kenneth Owen officiating the services.
The staff of Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-Downtown is grateful for the opportunity to honor Patricia’s life and memory and to serve her loving family during this time.
