Peggy Joyce White

Meridian

Peggy Joyce White, 91, of Meridian, MS, went to her Heavenly home on Thursday, August 1, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.

Peggy was born on June 18, 1933, to Harvey James Lancaster and Velma Cynthia Lancaster in Lauderdale County. On April 11, 1951, she married the love of her life, Lester Hubert White, and they were married for 62 wonderful years until his death in 2013. She was an LPN at Rush Hospital for over 25 years, 21 of those with Dr. Paul Varela. Peggy also volunteered outside the ICU/CCU waiting room for over 20 years.

She was a faithful member of Carmel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, Discipleship Training, helped with VBS and in the nursery, and was a member of the hospitality committee, as well as WMU. Children played a big role in Peggy’s life; she and her husband were foster parents. She also babysat for a few families and now those families are known as her adopted children and grandchildren.

She will be remembered as a strong Christian woman who loved the Lord dearly. She had a servant’s heart and enjoyed helping others. Her motto was “I love people and I feel my best when I work in service to those people”. She was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister, friend, and grandmother.

Peggy is leaving behind three daughters, Mary White, Linda Jackson (Joe), and Joyce Butler (Jerry); a foster son, Mac Yates; two grandchildren, Jay Butler (Linsey) and Brittany Butler; three great grandchildren, Maddox Lee, Collins Mae, and Bodie Van Butler; two sisters, Ruth Culpepper and Tommie Ann Parker of MI; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; along with her special family friends, Bill and Sachiko Harris, Charlie, Wanda, Lexie, and Lilli Peterson, Austin Milstead, Kim and Axton Alderson, Bailey McCarty, Harold Harper and Charles Harper.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Lester Hubert White; her parents, Harvey and Velma Lancaster; three brothers, Eugene Lancaster, James Harvey Lancaster, Jr., and William Lee (Burt) Lancaster; two sisters, Doris Harper and Dorothy Troutman.

Pallbearers for Peggy’s service will be Josh Timms, Larry Whitehead, Jamie Rawson, Mac Yates, Brandon Harper, and Jay Butler. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Harold Harper, Charles Harper, and Bill Partridge.

Visitation for Peggy will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 5-8pm at Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-North.
