Phillip Randolph Smith
Born January 9, 1940- Homecoming Celebration January 1, 2022
Born to Randolph and Phyllis Smith, Phillip had five older brothers and two younger sisters. He is joined in heaven by his parents, four brothers, one younger sister and his middle son James Alan. He left behind his loving wife and grand midget of 55 years, Marie, and two sons, John Michael (Lisa) and Joseph Wayne (Leah), along with twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one brother, Anthony, one sister, Gail, numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.
Phillip graduated high school in 1958 and promptly joined the United States Air Force, serving for eight years. He was later employed by Mississippi Power Company for 34 ½ years. After retirement, he went into the ministry as a United Methodist Pastor for twelve years. Due to health reasons, he retired from the pulpit, but that didn’t stop his ministry. He continued to bless all of us by spreading the Gospel to anyone that had a willing ear throughout the rest of his life.
He joined the Masonic Order in January of 1971 and received his 50-year pin on January 21, 2021. He was one of the rare jewels to earn his 32nd degree masonry and became a Shriner in 1973. Phillip then coerced his wife into joining and forming a new chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in March of 1984. He served as Worthy Grand Patron of the Order of Eastern Star for the 2015-2016 Grand Chapter year with Sister Carol Bradford as his Worthy Grand Matron.
Phillip was an amazing Husband, Father, Father-in-Law, Papaw, Grand-Papaw, Brother, Mason, Shriner and Friend. We will all miss him very much.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi.
