R.E. Alexander

Funeral services for R.E. Alexander will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Duffee Baptist Church, with Bro. Matthew Hitt officiating and burial following in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 20, from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Webb & Stephens – North.

Mr. Alexander, age 90, of Little Rock, passed away June 19 at his home.

R.E. graduated from Collinsville High School as valedictorian of his class. Immediately after graduating, his life changed forever when he met Donis Jean Calvert. She became his world and for sixty-three years, he was “the luckiest man alive”. Shortly after their marriage, he joined the Air Force and was stationed at Lake Charles. He had a combined total of 39 years of honorable service to his country with the Air Force and the Mississippi Air National Guard, having served during Vietnam and Desert Storm. R.E. was an avid outdoorsman who loved the excitement of the hunt, once even killing two turkeys with one shot.  After retirement, one of his greatest joys was keeping a garden and a herd of cows. Although he never had children, he and Jean showered their nieces and nephews with unconditional love and support. R.E. will be remembered as a kind man with a generous heart and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by nieces and nephews, William E. Boatner, Gary Lee Boatner, Martha Ann Skinner, Vickie Lynn Poythress, Tjwana Torrgeson, William Stanley Ward, Cassie Jo Alexander, Lisa Ward Huffaker, Jill Renee Carlberg, Michael Ray Smith, Debra Kay Hayes, John Gilbert, Ricky Clay Gilbert, Marsha Timms, Tony Calvert and Linda Gayle Beck. He also leaves behind his dogs that were more like his family than just pets.

R.E. was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of sixty-three years, Donis Jean Alexander; sisters, Claudine Smith, Marie Gilbert and Bonnie Ward; brothers, R.C. Alexander and Billy Ray Alexander.

Pallbearers will be Art Timms, Josh Timms, Eric Gilbert, Joe Alexander, Jeff Alexander and Mike Chaney.
