Rev. Tommy D. Gilbert
Funeral services for Rev. Tommy D. Gilbert will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 10 - 11 in the Central Crossing. The services will be led by Rev. Dennis Gossett, Rev. Robert Peden, and Bishop Clay F. Lee. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Bonita with James F. Webb Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Rev. Gilbert passed away on June 17, 2015 at home, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Tommy was born in Bonita on May 13, 1929 to James T. Gilbert and Nannie Gilbert. The Lord honored Rev. Gilbert by allowing him to serve these wonderful United Methodist congregations: The Matherville Circuit, The Philadelphia Circuit, Southside Philadelphia, Flowood, The Mt. Zion Circuit in Georgia, Associate Pastor Crawford St. Vicksburg, St. John's Yazoo City, Legget Memorial Biloxi, Carthage First, Brookhaven First, The Hattiesburg District, Gulfport First. And for 20 years and 11 months as minister of Stewardship and visitation at Central Meridian. He was also privileged to serve on many of the leading Boards and Agencies of the Mississippi United Methodist Annual Conference. He was a graduate of Millsaps College and Candler School of Theology at Emory University.
He is survived by his wife, Dot Gilbert, who was the love of his life; a wonderful son, Tommy D. Gilbert, Jr. and a special daughter in law, Cathy Gilbert; He is also survived by a large number of loving nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Nannie Gilbert; Two brothers, James P. Gilbert and Rev. Russell J. Gilbert; and one niece, Anita Yeatman.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the building fund of Central United Methodist Church.
