Funeral Services for Rev. Floyd William Price will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 11:00 am at Poplar Springs United Methodist Church with the Reverends Rob Gill, David Price, Wayne Webster and Rebecca Youngblood officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. James F. Webb Funeral Home in charges of arrangements.
Rev. Price, age 82, of Meridian, died Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. He was a minister of the United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Dr. F.W. Bill Price was born in Meridian, Mississippi July 20, 1927 to Floyd and Mavis Williams Price. He graduated from Meridian High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He married Ruby Ella McDonald of Picayune, Ms. on December 20, 1949. Rev. Price attended his beloved Mississippi State University for two years as an Engineering student. He transferred to Millsaps College where he received a B.A. degree in 1949. In subsequent years he received a B.D. degree from Candler School of Theology, Emory University, an M.A. degree from Scaritt College, an S.T.M. degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling from Christian Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Candler School of Theology.
Rev. Price served with his wife Ruby Ella and their family as missionaries to Pakistan from 1955-1970. He served in various capacities including work in Education and Chaplaincy, and as a Pastor of an international and interdenominational congregation in Lahore, Pakistan. Upon return to the United States, Rev. Price served a number of appointments in the United Methodist Church including the St. Paul Parish in Arkansas City, Kansas 1970-72, Wesley United Methodist Church in Columbus, Ms.1972-76, Director of the North Mississippi Annual Conference Council on Ministries, Grenada, Ms. 1976-80, First United Methodist Church, Starkville, Ms 1984-88, District Superintendent Grenada-Greenwood District 1988-92, Retired to Meridian, Ms. 1992 continuing to serve in Prison Ministry, supply preaching and many other volunteer services. He and his wife Ruby Ella loved their local church activities at Poplar Springs Drive UMC, going to Mississippi State ball games, watching Dancing with the Stars, and keeping up with their friends and family around the world. Rev. Price loved golf, learning, advocating for social justice issues, and most particularly fighting world hunger. In recent years, he has tenderly cared for his beloved wife, Ruby Ella, and continued to offer pastoral care to his community. He has impacted our world in a profound way and we give everlasting thanks.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Ella McDonald Price of Meridian; sons: Donald Wells Price and wife, Kathy of Meridian; William Michael Price and wife, Barbara of Burkley, CA; daughter, Rev. Ellynda Louise Price Lipsey and husband, Hal of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren: Brian Price and wife, Darrie, Jason Price, Cooper Price, Laura Lipsey Bray and husband, John; great grandchildren, McCanna Price and Tripp Price.
Preceded in death by parents, Floyd Wells Price and Mavis Clair Williams.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 15, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Family will receive friends Wednesday, December 16, 2009 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Poplar Springs United Methodist Church prior to service.
Pallbearers will be Criag Hitt, Les Phillips, Larry Pupa, Kenny Haskins, Perry Parnell and David Litton. Honorary pallbearers will be Friendly Crusaders Sunday School class and all Mississippi State University fans.
