Funeral services for Mr. Robert Eugene (Gene) Fisher, Sr. will be February 21, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with Bro. Paul Raley and Bro. Trevor Gore officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in the Zero community.
Mr. Gene Fisher, age 86, passed away on February 17, 2019 at Anderson Regional Medical Center South.
Gene was born February 3rd, 1933 at home in Meridian to the late Robert (Bob) and Sarah Fisher. After 30+ years employment working at the GM&O and Southern railroads, he retired from the Norfolk Southern Railroad as a carman and derrick engineer in 1996. He was drafted into the Army during the Korean War which ended while he was in boot camp. He went on to faithfully serve his country during his time of service and instilled into his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren his deep love and devotion to God and country. He was a faithful lifelong member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church where he often expressed his faith through song. Often accompanied on piano by his late wife,Sara, he ministered to many through his gift of singing. He also devoted his life to living out his faith in Jesus Christ as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor.
Pall bearers will be nephews Gavin, Dwayne, Ronald, and Randy Fisher, Perry Mitchell, and Jeff Jenkins, as well as Taylor Fisher, Hayes Patrick, and Trey Romero. Honorary pall bearers will be Josiah, Luke, and Nathan Patrick, and Howard Brannan, Gene's faithful neighbor and friend.
Gene is survived in death by daughter Gena Fisher Chancelor, son, Robert Fisher (Janice); three grandchildren, Lyndsey Patrick (Hayes), Emily Howard (Trey Romero) and Taylor Fisher; three great-grandchildren, Josiah, Luke and Nathan Patrick; Sister-in-law Drucille Fisher, Brother-in-law Wayne Boardman, multiple nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; wife Sara Marie Jenkins Fisher; four sisters, Margaret Pickard (Edgar), Helen Mitchell (Leo), Janie Hagwood (Ray), Lillian Boardman; and brother, Everett Fisher.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 20th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home and an hour prior to service on Thursday, February 21st at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers or for expressions of sympathy, the family asks that donations be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Building Fund.
