Roy Scruggs Garrett, 93, of Meridian, Mississippi, passed away in the evening hours of Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Trend Health and Rehab.
Roy was born to Eugene and Fredonia Garrett on January 28, 1931, in Lauderdale County. Roy enlisted in the United States Army at the young age of 17. While serving, he was stationed on the Edajima Island in Japan during the Korean War. Upon completion of his service, Roy was decorated with the Army Occupational Medal with the Japan Clasp and the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars.
He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather by his adoring family. The love of his life and bride of 72 years, Sharlene, passed away just last September. Roy had mentioned to his daughter at Sharlene’s passing, they had never spent more than a night away from each other. Now, reunited in Heaven, together they will be forevermore.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sharlene Peggy Sparks Garrett; and his daughter, Lisa Duke.
Roy is survived by his daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Watson; granddaughters, Emily Davis (Jason), Carmen Allen (Andrew), and Christian Duke; grandson, Kenny Watson (Pamela); and a legacy of ten great-grandchildren, Jase Clearman, Jillian Watson, Oliver Watson, Scout Watson, Lucy Allen, Amelia Allen, Abigail Newkirk, Addison Newkirk, Ava Grace Duke, and Brantley Duke.
Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, beginning at 2 pm, at Magnolia Cemetery in Meridian, Mississippi, with Bro. Kenny Watson officiating the service.
