Sarah was born August 6, 1939, in Daleville, MS, just over the Kemper County line in a log cabin to the late Oswald Eric Williams, Ret. M/Sgt., and Mae Beatrice Limerick Williams. She married John Will Walters on October 5, 1961. Sarah passed away at home on January 11,2024.
Sarah was a lifelong member of the Daleville Baptist Church. She was a proud member of the class of 1956 at DeKalb High School. After graduation, she and her mother joined her father at Fort Benning, GA. She attended and graduated from Perry’s Business School. After her father retired, they returned home to Daleville.
In 1967, Sarah, John, and the children moved to Waynesboro, MS. Sarah was active in the children’s school years, serving as a room mother, in the PTO, and the school booster club.
She was a charter member of the Chickasway Chapter, DAR, a charter member of the Dutch Fork Chapter, South Carolina Genealogy Society, a charter member of the Wayne County Genealogy Organization. After John’s retirement they moved back to Nellieburg and she became a member of the Samuel Dale Chapter, DAR.
Sarah is survived by her daughter Sarah Elizabeth (Beth) McCain and son in law, Stan McCain of Daphne, AL, son Andrew Jeffery (Andy) Walters and daughter in law, Kim, of Starkville, MS, and four beloved grandchildren, Chelsea McCain of Bay Minette, AL, Erin McCain Sanders (Craig) of Mobile, AL, Kathryn Walters of State College, PA, and Andrew Joshua (Drew) Walters of Starkville, MS, one great grandson, Beckett Cain Sanders, one nephew and his family, John L. Williams, Jr., of Colorado, and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John W. Walters, both parents and brother John Lindsay Williams, Sr.
Services will be held at Webb & Stephens Funeral Home on Saturday, January 20, 2024, with visitation beginning at 12 PM. The service will begin at 1 PM with burial to follow at Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery, beside the love of her life, John.
