Shirley Faye Creel, 86, of Meridian, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 10, 2025, with her family by her side. She is in the loving arms of Jesus now and is completely healed and we are thankful for His peace and grace.
Shirley was born to Lavern and Beatrice (Fulton) Snowden on October 19, 1938, in Lauderdale County. On August 15, 1959, she married the love of her life, her sweetheart, Raymond Creel. The two of them were inseparable, always together and they enjoyed 65 wonderful years of marriage. Through their years they enjoyed many camping trips with friends and after retirement were able to do a lot of traveling while her health allowed it.
They have two sons, Greg and Keith, that are loved so much. Both of you took such special care of your mom in her last weeks, right by her side to offer encouragement and comfort and all your love that she surely knew and felt.
Shirley loved flowers and could make anything grow. She shared many of her cuttings with others. She retired from Winn-Dixie where she ran the floral department and enjoyed making arrangements. She loved cooking and baking for her family and others. She was a natural at ceramics and cake decorating too and loved to read. One of her favorite things to do was ride the golf cart around the yard and pick up limbs, and no limb escaped her grabber. She loved her family, and her grands and great grands were so special to her.
Shirley was a long-time member of Fellowship Baptist Church where she actively served many years while she was able. She was a sweet special lady and will be remembered and missed deeply by all who knew her and loved her. She had a beautiful smile, and everyone loved her laugh.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lavern and Beatrice Snowden; her brother, Lavern Snowden, Jr.; and several brothers-in-law, her sister-in-law, niece, and nephews.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband, Raymond Creel; her children, Greg Creel (Donna), and Keith Creel (Renee); her grandchildren, Cody Creel (Valerie), Sara Creel, Chloe Lewis (Colton), and Lyla Graham; her great grandchildren, Ivey and Case Creel, and Gentry Lewis; and her sweet sisters, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 12th, from 5-7 pm at Webb & Stephens Funeral Home-North. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 13th beginning at 11am in the chapel, with Dr. Corey Fontan, Pastor Caleb Hughes, and Reverend Ken Walters officiating the services. Shirley will be laid to rest at Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers for Shirley’s service will be Cody Creel, Colton Lewis, Glenn Godwin, Scotty Boyd, Bryan Harper, and Kameron Branning.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund in honor of Shirley Creel.
The family would like to thank the nurses of 3 East at Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center for their loving and exceptional care for “Mrs. Shirley”. We appreciate you all.
The staff of Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-North is grateful for the opportunity to honor Shirley’s life and memory and to serve her loving family during this time.
