Talmadge Brown

A memorial service will be held for Talmadge Norris "Ted" Brown on Friday, November 30th, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton.
Mr. Brown, 82, of Meridian, passed away Monday, November 19th at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 29, 1936 to the late John Lawrence and Mary Williams Brown in Lauderdale County Mississippi. Mr. Brown spent his early life in the Pine Springs/Centerhill area of Lauderdale County. He loved life and his family. He was a very special husband, Daddy, Pappaw, brother and uncle. He loved spending time with his family boating, camping, fishing, traveling, or just being together. He also loved to fly in his earlier years, taking great pride in receiving his pilots license. He was a role model to many including family, friends, and co-workers. He loved doing for other and if needed could be depended on to be there no matter the distance. He loved serving his community and received several awards for outstanding community service.
Chief Master Sergeant Brown entered the United States Air Force in 1953. The early part of his career was in aircraft propulsion, where he had a tour of duty in Vietnam and earned his way up to technician and supervisor positions. The vast majority of his career was spent in the United States Air Force Recruiting Service. As he worked his way up he held many different positions with increased responsibility. Along the way it became obvious that his outstanding professional skills, leadership abilities, dedication to duty and keen sense of ingenuity was exemplary. As a result of his intense dedication he received numerous awards, citations, and other forms of recognition which ultimately enabled him to receive the highest rank an enlisted person can receive - the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. His last duty assignment was with the 3548th USAF Recruiting Squadron in Little Rock, AR. This vast squadron covered parts of 5 states - Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Western Tennessee and Western Kentucky. He held the coveted position of Superintendent and Senior Enlisted Advisor as his last duty assignment in the 3548th Recruiting Squadron. The men who worked with him describe him as one of the best men ever and a great leader who led with unquestioned integrity. At the time of his retirement on November 30, 1983, he had 30 years of outstanding, unblemished service to our country.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary "Becky" Brown; daughter, Sherri Clopton (Bruce); grandsons, Brett Clopton, Cole Clopton (Rachel), Ethan Clopton and Brolin Brown. Also surviving are brothers-in-law, BL Morland, Jimmy Alexander, and Buster Alexander (Pam) and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John L. and Mary Williams Brown; sister, Reta Morland; brothers, J.D., Bob, Preston, Mack, Wilford, and David; and his beloved daughter Terri Brown.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to his wonderful, kind caregivers Brenda Brown, Miranda Hudson, Nannie Scruggs, and Vickie Smith.
