Funeral service for Velma Katherine Newbill Booth, 91, will be Friday, June 17, 2016 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Meridian Mississippi at 2:00 P.M. with the Reverend Mark Flynn officiating with burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:00 prior to the service.
Mrs. Booth passed away Thursday, June 9, 2016 at her residence.
Mrs. Booth graduated from Meridian High School and Mary Baldwin College. She was a former member of Central Presbyterian Church and then later Trinity Presbyterian Church. She was a choir and circle member and active in the Mississippi Presbytery. She was active in the community, serving as President of the Meridian Symphony League and the Meridian Art Association and volunteering at Merrehope.
Mrs. Booth is survived by her son, George (Skipper) Newbill Booth; daughters, Amelia (Amy) Booth Allred (Thomas); Mignonne Booth Carmichael (Ken); five grandchildren, Meagan Elaine Allred; Lauren Ashton Allred; Amy Katherine Carmichael; Michelle Tate Carmichael and Taylor Clay Carmichael; one great-grandchild, William James Elder.
Mrs. Booth is preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, Marvin Kenneth Booth; parents, George Washington Newbill and Velma Clay Newbill; dearest friends, Sara Whitehead and Merle Archer.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Richard Allred, B.B. Archer, Taylor Clay Carmichael, James Whitehead, Walter Whitehead, and Daniel Whitehead.
