Vera Conard DownsBRBRBRBRServices for Vera Conard Downs will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Patricks Catholic Church. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery with James F. Webb Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. BRBRMrs. Downs, 80, of Meridian, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at Rush Foundation Hospital.BRBRMrs. Downs was born in Meridian in 1927. Following her graduation from Meridian High School in 1944 where she was a member of DBS Sorority, Mrs. Downs completed her degree from Mississippi State College for Women in 1947. Upon returning to Meridian from Orlando, FL in 1976, she was employed by Hardins Bakery and later the Meridian School System. She resided at Aldersgate Retirement Community for the past nine years. She cherished and enjoyed her many friends from childhood days to retirement, and her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. BRBRSurvivors include her daughters, Sharron Downs Landers, of Atlanta, Ga., Deborah Downs Hinkle, of Orlando, Fla., and Deana Downs Pickett, of Winter Park, Fla., one brother, Linford Conard, Jr., of Meridian, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. BRBRShe was preceded in death by her parents, Minnie Lee and Linford Conard, Sr., and her sister Elizabeth Ann Conard, both of Meridian.BRBRPallbearers will be sons-in-law, Frederick Landers, Sr., Richard Hinkle and David Pickett, and grandsons, Frederick Landers, Jr., Robert Battaglia, Jr., Dean Pickett and David Pickett. BRBRVisitation will be today from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
