Mrs. Virgie Warren Mommsen
Retired educator Services for Virgie Warren Mommsen will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Suqualena United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Gunn officiating. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Mommsen, 97, of Miami Springs, Fla., died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. She was retired from the Miami Dade County Schools. She was born in Suqualena on May 5, 1910. She taught second grade classes at Suqualena and Miami for more than 42 years. She came to Miami in 1952, and married Earl Mommsen in 1958, and became a step-mother of four children and retired from teaching in 1973. She was a life long member of the United Methodist Church and served as a church historian, Sunday school teacher, organizer of the Pumpkin Patch and countless other committee assignments over the years. She was a charter member and past worthy matron of the Suqualena Order of Eastern Star No. 327 in Meridian. She was a loyal member of the alumni association of the University of Southern Mississippi and the Miami Dade County Retired Education Association. Mrs. Mommsen will be loved and missed by all who knew her. Survivors include Kent Mommsen of Salt Lake City, Karen Tomanio of Eliot, Maine and Lowell Mommsen of Eugene, Ore.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl W. Mommsen; a son, Glen M. Mommsen; her parents, Charles P. Warren and Martha E. Warren; four brothers and three sisters.
