Walter Jones

May 27, 1954 — July 2, 2018

A memorial service for Amos Jones will be held Thursday, July 5th at Jones Memorial Presbyterian Church. Rev. Allan Singletary will officiate. There will be a short visitation at 10:00am followed by a service at 11:00am. To honor Amos and his unconventional life, please come in casual, comfortable clothes.
Amos was born May 27, 1954 in Meridian, the second child of Jack and Carolyn Jones. He attended Oakland Heights Elementary School and Jefferson Davis Academy from sixth through twelfth grade. He had a very unique, interesting life that was filled with adventure. He lived in New York City on two separate occasions. He had the opportunity to travel all over the United States and loved his trips to Mexico and most recently to Peru and Cuba. He had many interesting jobs including spinning records at a country dance club in Meridian, an usher at Lowe's State Theater in NYC, a package scanner for UPS in New Jersey, a crew member on a tugboat in the Gulf of Mexico and most recently as an amazing local house painter. His neatness as a painter was his best form of advertisement. His proudest job was as "gatekeeper" of the Threefoot Building and serving with his dear friends on the Threefoot Building Restoration Foundation.
Amos is survived by his loving mother, Carolyn Jones; his brother, Andy Jones and his, wife, Jennifer; his sister, Carrie Latham and her husband, Lynn; his nieces and nephews: Amy and Dennis McDill, William and Jamie Hodges, Rebecca and Johnny Hennegan and Sally and Josh Madison; his great nieces and nephews: Eli, Ava, Georgia, Connor, Emily, Alyssa, Charlotte, Troa and Hayden.
He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew J. Jones III; grandparents: George and Beulah Askew and Jack and Velma Jones.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Blair Batson Childrens Hospital in Jackson or the Cancer Patient Benevolence Fund c/o Anderson Cancer Center in Meridian.
