Services for Tal Dukes will be held Wednesday, at 1 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Greg Massey officiating. Burial will be in Meridian Memorial Park Cemetery with James F. Webb Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Duke, 80, died, Sunday, February 1, 2009 at his residence in Meridian. He was a member of Central Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher and as an active member. He was also part of the Scrap Iron Sunday School class at Central Baptist. He was a veteran of the Korean War while serving with the United States Marines Corps. He loved to play baseball in his younger years. When he finally became too old to play he enjoyed coaching almost as much as playing. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Opal Dukes of Meridian, daughters, Donna Slayton and her husband Danny, Marcia Moore and her husband Joe; and Cindy White and her husband, Rodney, all of Enterprise, son, Darryl Dukes of Meridian; and seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; Mary Annie Pigford Dukes, and Samuel C. Dukes, infant daughter, Shannon Leah Dukes; four sisters, and one brother. Visitation will be held at 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Marty Hagwood, Sam McKee, Doug Bearden, Jim Farmer, Glen Wayne McInnis and Billy McInnis. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Scrap Iron Sunday School class and deacons of Central Baptist Church.
