A celebration of life service for William “Bill” Victor John Sr. will be held Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Druid Hills Methodist Church, 3565 State Boulevard. Rev. Richard Williams will officiate.
Mr. John, 79, went to be with His Lord and Savior February 16, 2022, with his family by his side.
Bill was a veteran and served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He loved the Lord, his country, his family, and his church family.
Bill was a graduate of Meridian High School, Class of 1960. His career included Caterpillar Machine, John Deere in the parts department, and a buyer for Peavey Electronics. After retirement, Bill worked at the Jimmie Rodgers Museum as a tour guide. He enjoyed meetings visitors from all over the world and telling them about the life of Jimmie Rodgers. One of his favorite pastimes was going to Books-A-Million to meet his “Buds” and solve the world’s problems, always looking for the latest books about Star Wars or Star Trek! Bill enjoyed Southern Gospel Music, especially Gold City and Don Moen. He was a life member of the NRA, a graduate and member of The Citizens Police Academy and co-chairman of the Highland Baptist Neighborhood Watch Group.
One of Bill’s most enjoyable things to do was to “patrol” the neighborhood on his four-wheeler with his faithful pups, Fella and Muffy, and give the kids in the neighborhood a ride. They referred to him as “Mr. Bill”. He looked forward to holiday dinners with family and friends, lots of good food, not to mention his love for chocolate, peanut butter, and Luzianne coffee!
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, JoAn; son, Billy John Jr. (Tracy); daughters, Pam Joh Kinser (Kelley), Debbie Barns, Kim Lawrence (David), and son, Robbey Robinson; grandchildren, Marie John Roberts (Chris), Michael John, Tessa Scarbrough, Leslie Beard, Joshua Hearn, Crystal Gilley (Brandon), Trey Robinson, Derek Scarbrough Jr. (Lacy), Dave Lawrence (Nikkie), Mandy Ford, Rhianna Pomroy, and Jennifer Pomroy; great grandchildren, Easton and Abigail Roberts, Mason and Harper John, Michael Hearn, Aden, Kingston and Roland Gilley, Layla Scarbrough, Brinna and Sawyer Lawrence, Madison, Emma and Katy Ford, and Savannah and Scarlett Robinson; sister, Judy Cook; and extended family, Jenny Lynn and Olivia Taylor.
